Bead&Button Cover Story Necklace-Feb. 2008

This unique necklace was the one I chose to write about in the February '08 issue of Bead&Button Magazine (see link at In the Press, at the bottom of the page). I was completely floored when they told me they chose my jewelry for the cover. I was happy just to be included somewhere in the magazine but to be chosen as the cover was such an honor. The necklace is made from extraordinary, hand-made polymer clay beads by my friend, Barbara McGuire, a very talented artist and author. I chose amethyst, turquoise and carnelian to accent the colors in the main beads. I was influenced and learned a lot from Eni Oken, another extremely talented wire jewelry artist. This technique is relatively fast for coiling and I have learned a few tricks to help with the speed and accuracy and to prevent kinking. If you'd like to learn this way of coiling you can. I was asked to make a tutorial that was not so complicated as this necklace and it is now completed. It is called The Three Segment Coiled Bracelet Tutorial and it will teach you all you need to know without putting you in overwhelm. I teach this to beginners and they love it. It really is a lot of fun. Go ahead and give it a try. This technique is remarkably versatile and will expand your repertoire of wiring skills.
